Re-engage or remove dormant contacts

1 min read · Updated

Emailing people who never open hurts the delivery of everything else you send: mailbox providers notice when mail goes unread. A sunset flow tries to win dormant contacts back, then quietly stops emailing the ones who stay silent.

The shape of the flow

  1. Check engagement: “has not opened in the last” 90 days, for example, counting engagement anywhere in the workspace. Decide whether contacts who have never engaged count as dormant. Contacts who are still engaged exit here.
  2. Send an email: a short, honest “do you still want to hear from us?” message.
  3. Wait a few days.
  4. If / Else branch on whether they opened that email. On YES, exit: they are back.
  5. On NO, Remove dormant contacts.

You can also skip the automation and send a one-off win-back: start a campaign with Pick a window to target contacts who have gone quiet for a period you choose.

Suppress or unsubscribe

  • Suppress (the default) blocks every future send silently. The contact’s subscription status stays as it is.
  • Unsubscribe also marks the contact as unsubscribed.

Activating it safely

Because this automation removes contacts, activating it shows how many contacts currently match the dormancy rule and asks you to type REMOVE to confirm. Check that number: if it is far larger than you expected, revisit the engagement window before going ahead.
